Relaxation Tips for the Holidays

The holidays are a fun yet busy time of year, but it’s tough to enjoy the season when you’re all stressed out. Here are a few relaxation tips that will help you relieve stress and remain calm amidst all the hustle and bustle—not just during the holiday season but year-round.

Relaxation Tip #1: Exercise is Paramount

Exercise, as little as 20 minutes per day, really does relieve stress and increase your energy level. Go for a brisk walk, take a few laps around the mall, park in the far end of the lot during shopping excursions, and use the stairs instead of escalators or elevators to increase your activity level. Wear a pedometer or use a smartphone app to track your activity and aim for 10,000 steps per day. It’s a fun and challenging way to track your fitness level.

Relaxation Tip #2: Multivitamins Are a Must

Take a high-potent multivitamin/mineral supplement every day. Shoring up your reserves of B-complex vitamins, antioxidants, magnesium, and your overall nutritional status can help boost your immune system, relieve stress, and reduce anxiety levels.

Relaxation Tip #3: Tea is Key

Wind down at the end of the day with a warm cup of chamomile tea. In addition to helping relieve stress, this can also bring on a restful night’s sleep.

Relaxation Tip #4: Take a Bath

Treat yourself to a nice hot bath. Warm water loosens not only tired, achy muscles but also busy, anxious minds.

Relaxation Tip #5: Give Music a Try

Another easy way to relieve stress is to listen to soothing music. As John Logan, American playwright and screenwriter once said, “Music’s the medicine of the mind.”

Relaxation Tip #6: Book a Massage

Get a massage. It feels fantastic and has true therapeutic value. A massage not only helps relieve stress, it improves your circulation, enhances your immune system, and helps eliminate toxins from your lymphatic system as well.

Relaxation Tip #7: Volunteer Your Time

Volunteer at a local church, hospital, or shelter. Volunteering your time and talents to help others makes you feel wonderful as well.

Relaxation Tip #8: Make Time for You

Most people don’t take enough time for themselves during the holidays, and as a result, they get worn out, stressed, and susceptible to colds, flu, and other illnesses. Take a little time each and every day to do something you enjoy, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Not only will this simple measure relieve stress—it will make you feel happier and healthier overall.
