With an estimated 100 million Americans living with diabetes or prediabetes, it’s likely that you or someone you know is dealing with this challenging condition. The following diabetes success stories highlight how natural therapies and treatments to lower blood sugar and prevent or stave off diabetic complications have improved the lives of thousands of Whitaker Wellness patients and Health & Healing subscribers. We hope they can help you or a loved one as well.
Goodbye Cane and Pain of Diabetic Neuropathy
Some of the most intriguing diabetes success stories center around the complications of diabetes. And diabetic neuropathy is among the most devastating. Triggered by diabetes-induced damage to the blood vessels and nerves, it causes excruciating pain, disability, and, in more than 86,000 cases per year, amputation, usually involving the lower extremities. We see many patients with diabetic neuropathy at the clinic, primarily because conventional medicine has little to offer besides pain-relieving drugs and wound care. Although our success rate in treating neuropathy may seem miraculous, it’s really just good medicine. We simply help patients get their blood sugar under control and use therapies that dramatically improve blood flow and oxygen delivery, thereby stimulating the natural healing process. William E. from Florida is an excellent example.
I came to the Back to Health Program because my diabetic neuropathy was so bad that despite taking Lyrica for pain relief, I was miserable. I was only sleeping two to three hours a night, I was unable to work because I couldn’t sit for more than an hour at a time due to severe leg pain, and my life was steadily going downhill. The last straw was a family vacation to Disney World where my wife had to push me around in a wheelchair. After that, I made up my mind that this had to change.
So my wife and I came to the Whitaker Wellness Clinic. When I first arrived, I had to use a cane because I was very unsteady on my feet. But after just four days of undergoing enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP), hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), microcurrent therapy, and receiving intravenous (IV) nutrients, I put my cane away—and I haven’t used it again to this day!
My family and friends cannot believe the difference in me. I can now walk and do things I hadn’t been able to do for three or four years! I bought a microcurrent machine to use at home for pain relief, and I watch my diet because I never want to be in the shape I was before I came to the clinic. Thank you, Dr. Whitaker, and your wonderful staff for all of your help.
Be a Person Who Makes Things Happen
About a quarter of patients with type 2 diabetes who go the conventional route end up on insulin. As higher and higher dosages of insulin are added to their treatment regimen, they gain more and more weight, which makes blood sugar control nearly impossible. It doesn’t have to be that way. Diabetes success stories like the ones you are about to read are not at all uncommon when patients decide to take their health into their own hands.
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and after starting on insulin, I gained 60 pounds. I had been to Whitaker Wellness before with my mother and was treated for wrist pain, which permanently resolved. So, I decided to enroll in the clinic’s Back to Health Program.
My doctor took me off insulin, and although my blood sugar went up a little at first, it dropped by day three. I also had IVs, hyperbaric oxygen, and laser for my ankle pain, which immediately improved. Within six months, I lost all that weight I had gained on insulin and continued to lose more slowly—100 pounds, give or take, partially due to lap-band surgery.
Three years later, I came back with my wife, who is a registered nurse. I now try to return every year for a tune-up. My diabetes hasn’t resolved but is very much controlled. I feel so much better, and my confidence in the Whitaker philosophy is greater than ever. Although my insurance has forced me into an HMO with extremely high deductibles and very little care, I have informed my HMO physicians of my resolve to avoid “drug pushing.” We have some good doctors in the Dallas area, but Whitaker Wellness is the only place with so many powerful treatments.
As for the cost (traveling and time off work), I think about the days when I taught safe boating and students cringed at purchasing expensive lifejackets (SOSPenders), which are more likely to be worn than the bulky orange vests. You just have to ask yourself how much is your life worth. It has been worth every penny to be as healthy as I now am. I honestly believe that I might not be alive today if it weren’t for Dr. Whitaker.
You can be a person who lets life happen or one who makes things happen. If you’re the latter, you spend the time to learn about what’s going on in your body, you look for answers besides getting hooked up on drugs, you establish a goal or plan, and you stick to it. You take control of your health. It’s the only way to go! — Bradley Chilcote, Dallas, Texas
“Not Going to Be a Victim”
I am in my 30s with type 2 diabetes, taking Metformin and Januvia. Three months ago I went to my doctor and was mortified to learn how much I had let my condition spiral out of control. I weighed 226 pounds, my A1C was 9.6, and my cholesterol was sky high! My doctor recommended that I start taking insulin and wrote out prescriptions for six new drugs. I left in tears, but after my meltdown, I quit crying and got mad, very mad. I decided that I was not going to be a victim.
I went on the internet, looking for answers, and stumbled across Dr. Whitaker’s website. The more I read, the more I agreed with your ideologies about medicine and decided to give your method a try. I read through the list of supplements, chose the ones that I thought would help me the most, and began taking them (six pills total). I also began an exercise program, simply walking three miles a day, and cooking from the recipe book I bought. It has now been three months since I started this program and I have lost 26 pounds, my A1C is 7.6, and my cholesterol has dropped significantly! I was absolutely thrilled with my results, and to think I accomplished this in only three months! — L.G., via email
