A few weeks ago, we talked about the best time of day to take your supplements. In this week’s e-letter, I’d like to answer another question I hear a lot: “Dr. Whitaker, which vitamins and nutrients do you use on a daily basis?”
My Personal Supplement Regimen
My top priorities are the Forward Plus Daily Regimen (2 packets, includes fish oil), Vision Essentials (4 capsules), DHEA (50 mg), and coenzyme Q10 (100 mg). Next on my priority list are Memory Essentials (2-4 capsules), Saw Palmetto Prostate Health (2-4 capsules), L-carnitine (1,000 mg), and berberine (1,500 mg). Other than DHEA and Vision Essentials, which I take in the morning, I divide all these into two doses and take them with breakfast or lunch and again with dinner.
In addition to these supplements, I take ¼-cup of freshly ground flaxseed. I usually gulp it down in water or occasionally mix it in a smoothie or food.
While these are “the regulars,” I have been known to take extra supplements in a somewhat haphazard fashion. As my family and clinic staff will tell you, my home and office cupboards are literally stuffed with bottles and packets of various supplements ranging from Essential Greens and MSM to extra vitamin C and fish oil. I sometimes feel like a bartender surrounded by vitamins and minerals. At any given moment I may spot something I like, open the bottle, offer it around the room, and partake myself. But as for my personal regimen, the supplements listed above are the ones I take every day, without fail.
Our Drug-Free Approach to Wellness
When patients come to Whitaker Wellness, one of the first things we do is “upgrade” them to a high-quality, high-potency multi-vitamin that contains a full spectrum of essential nutrients in the amounts and forms their bodies need to function at optimal levels. This helps fill in the nutritional gaps left by less-than-perfect diets and lifestyle indiscretions.
We then prescribe targeted vitamins and nutrients based on patient’s specific health concerns such as niacin and flaxseed to lower cholesterol, and vanadyl sulfate, berberine, chromium, and cinnamon to naturally bring down high blood sugar. For virtually any condition, we offer a safe, natural solution.
