Infrared Light Therapy

What is Infrared Light Therapy?

Infrared light is one of several innovative therapies we use at the Whitaker Wellness Institute to help our patients who are dealing with chronic or acute pain. This unique treatment harnesses the healing power of specific wavelengths of light. When infrared energy is delivered to injury sites and other painful areas, it dramatically increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing. The result is rapid relief of discomfort.

Treatment with infrared light therapy is simple and painless. Flexible pads, each containing multiple infrared lights, are placed directly on the skin over the area of pain or injury. Energy from the lights penetrates beneath the skin and is absorbed by deep tissues. After just 30 minutes of treatment, blood flow is enhanced by 400 percent, and this boost in local circulation persists for several hours after the pads are removed. Because the most dramatic benefits of infrared light therapy are achieved with multiple treatment sessions, we often recommend that patients who wish to undergo this therapy enroll in our Back to Health Program.

How Infrared Light Therapy Can Help You

The key to the dramatic improvements engendered by infrared light therapy is nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a short-lived gas that is crucial to the health of the arteries. This powerful signaling molecule relaxes the arteries, helps regulate blood pressure, fights free radicals, and discourages platelets from clumping together in the blood vessels. Infrared energy prompts the release of nitric oxide, which enhances blood flow in the immediate vicinity, bringing oxygen, nutrients—and pain relief—to injured, aching tissues.

Infrared light therapy is a key component of the Whitaker Wellness Institute’s multi-modality pain protocols. Our comprehensive approach, which also includes prolotherapymicrocurrentacupuncturechiropractic, and other therapies, yields results that are unobtainable by any single treatment. This synergistic approach often allows patients to avoid invasive surgeries and reduce or eliminate their reliance on dangerous prescription drugs.
