Fibromyalgia

Successful Fibromyalgia Treatment

Fibromyalgia affects an estimated 10 million Americans. It is closely related to chronic fatigue syndrome—so close, in fact, that the two conditions are in some cases indistinguishable. They share symptoms of fatigue, insomnia, depression, and poor concentration. However, people with fibromyalgia also suffer with chronic deep aching or sharp shooting pain in soft tissues throughout the body. In severe cases, the pain and overwhelming exhaustion are so debilitating that they interfere with day-to-day activities.

As you may have already discovered, conventional medicine has little to offer people suffering with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue. Most doctors today are baffled by these conditions, and many dismiss them altogether, telling patients their symptoms are “all in their head.” They usually resort to prescribing a lengthy list of drugs such as antidepressants, anti-inflammatory medications, sleeping pills, and painkillers. When these fail, patients are simply told to “live with it.”

At the Whitaker Wellness Institute, we know the fatigue, pain, and other symptoms you are experiencing are not all in your head. They are real, and they have a cause. More important, we can help. Our physicians don’t just treat the symptoms of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia—we prescribe a nutritional approach and targeted therapies that have the potential of alleviating pain, increasing energy, and actually reversing these stubborn conditions. Because pain-relieving therapies require multiple treatments, we urge patients who live outside the local area to attend our Back to Health Program.

Our Drug-Free Approach

hormones-lgBioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Research has shown that patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue often have much lower levels of DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) than healthy peopleof the same age. Many are also deficient in thyroid and have imbalances in estrogen, testosterone, and adrenal hormones. Our physicians test hormone levels and, if they’re out of balance, prescribe bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. We also rule out heavy metal toxicity, which can sap energy and cause aches and pains. Ridding the body of these toxins via a course of chelation is often an important step on the road back to health.

Nutritional Support and LDN
A number of targeted nutritional supplements, including vitamin D, ribose, and magnesium, may improve the pain of fibromyalgia and the overwhelming exhaustion of chronic fatigue. Your Whitaker Wellness physician will prescribe a comprehensive supplement program to address these concerns as well as other issues that often accompany fibromyalgia, such as insomnia and depression. We also boost our patients’ immune function with intravenous vitamin C and other nutrients. Your physician may also prescribe low-dose naltrexone (LDN), a safe, nontoxic drug and powerful immune booster that is making inroads as a therapy for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

Therapies for Pain Relief
For pain relief, we offer a number of effective alternative therapies. Microcurrent therapy delivers very low-frequency electrical currents to areas of pain and tenderness with often-remarkable results. Patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue also respond well to acupuncturemassagehyperbaric oxygen therapy, and reflexology.

Personalized Lifestyle Program

If you have fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, diet can make a huge difference in how you feel. At Whitaker Wellness, we test for undetected food allergies, which are an overlooked but frequent cause of fatigue and pain. During your stay at our Back to Health Program, you will eat delicious meals that contain an abundance of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids that help alleviate pain, slow-burning carbohydrates that increase energy, and a full array of antioxidants, B-complex vitamins, and other essential nutrients.
