What qualifications do the doctors at Whitaker Wellness have?
All of the doctors at the Whitaker Wellness Institute are conventionally trained physicians who have received additional education in integrative medical therapies. Therefore, they are well-versed in conventional medicine, yet they also understand the power of diet, exercise, nutritional supplements, and other noninvasive therapies and their respective roles in treating and preventing disease. Some of our physicians are medical doctors (MDs) and others are doctors of osteopathic medicine. (What's the difference? Click here to find out.) These outstanding physicians were hand-picked by Dr. Whitaker for their clinical expertise and adherence to his treatment philosophy. They meet weekly with Dr. Whitaker and his research team to review the latest advances in medicine and learn about new therapies and nutritional supplements.
While many of our patients do rely on us for all of their general care, we recommend that you keep your primary care physician as well. In case of an emergency situation, you will want to have your primary doctor on hand, so you can be treated by him/her rather than being assigned a random doctor at the hospital. Of course, our physicians at the clinic will be available for consultation after any such emergency.
In order for Dr. Whitaker to have the greatest impact on all of our patients, he works closely with our team of skilled physicians and health care professionals to ensure that each patient gets the best care possible. Dr. Whitaker is very active in the educational aspect of our Back to Health Program and often gives lectures during your stay. He's in the trenches teaching patients how they can play an active part in their road to recovery.
Dr. Whitaker is the Medical Director of the clinic, and all of our physicians have been selected and trained by him. Because they follow Dr. Whitaker's protocols, they are all equally qualified in treating your particular health concern. Dr. Whitaker is also always available to them for consultation, if needed. You can refer to the Medical Staff page to read a bio for each of the skilled physicians on staff.
If the therapies and supplements recommended at Whitaker Wellness work so well, why doesn't my doctor use them?
Throughout medical school and residency, a doctor's training revolves around the long-standing paradigms of treating patients with prescription drugs and invasive procedures. They simply do not learn about most of the safe, natural therapies we use at the Whitaker Wellness Institute. Drugs and surgery are so ingrained in the current model of medicine that alternative therapies are not only ignored, they're often vilified. Even though these safe, natural treatments would result in better patient outcomes compared to those of side effect-riddled drugs and dangerous surgeries—and they'd save our health care system billions of dollars—patients are routinely pushed toward the more expensive and harmful conventional modalities.
This is a tough question because there really isn't anyone else out there that does everything that we do. Whitaker Wellness offers education, meals, testing, therapies, and more—all under one roof. We are a medical clinic that provides safe, integrative therapies to address your health concerns, with a skilled physician and team of wellness professionals supporting you every step of the way. However, we also focus on lifestyle changes and individualized nutritional supplement programs, aimed at keeping your health problems in check for the rest of your life. Although there are other clinics out there that provide a handful of the therapies and treatment programs we offer, no other facility comes close to providing everything that we do at the Whitaker Wellness Institute. Do you take insurance?
Depending on your policy, your insurance may cover your physician evaluations, laboratory and diagnostic tests, and some of our therapies such as EECP. Only a handful of companies cover our full gamut of therapies or the educational portion of the Back to Health Program. Please check with your insurance company for details on your personal policy.
Payment is due at the time services are rendered. However, we are happy to courtesy bill your insurance company or provide you with an itemized statement that you may submit for possible reimbursement of qualifying medical charges.
Very few clinics that offer integrative medical care accept Medicare. Although the Whitaker Wellness Institute did accept Medicare several years ago, we no longer participate in the program.
Many of our patients traveling from out of state fly into the John Wayne/Orange County Airport (SNA). Most major airlines fly into this airport and patients pay their own airfare. The Hilton provides a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel. (Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Long Beach/Daugherty Field Airport (LGB) are also within a 50-mile radius of the Whitaker Wellness Institute. However, you would be required to provide your own transportation to and from the airport to the Irvine/Orange County Airport Hilton.)
The best thing to do in this case would be to direct them to our website. It is full of informative content on the therapies we offer and the conditions we treat, along with many patient success stories. Your friend or relative can also call us for further guidance, if he or she is interested. Due to HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, we can not discuss treatment with anyone but the patient (or potential patient), so it is important to have him/her call us directly so we can answer any questions. You can also contact any of our ambassadors to speak with someone that has already visited our clinic.
